Orange Luxembourg chooses European equipment manufacturer Nokia to deploy its 5G network

Press Release
Press Release

Luxembourg, October 9th 2020

Following the tender launched in 2019 for the selection of its 5G equipment supplier in Luxembourg, Orange has chosen Nokia. This agreement includes the equipment itself (antennas, routers, etc.) as well as deployment and maintenance services.

For Orange, the deployment of 5G is a necessary and even indispensable step forward in today's world. It is one of the major challenges of its strategic plan Engage 2025. After a positive result in the 5G auction conducted by the Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (I.L.R) last July - Orange obtained the maximum number of frequencies available for the 5th generation of mobile communication: 2x10 on the 700 MHz band, 1x110 on the 3.6 GHz band - the operator announces the choice of Nokia as the equipment supplier for the deployment of its 5G network in Luxembourg.

Nokia was selected following a call for tenders based on technological innovation as well as operational and financial criteria. The equipment manufacturer will provide a set of products and services enabling the deployment of the 5G network throughout the country. The agreement includes antennas and associated professional services.

In the mobile network, the European equipment manufacturer has, for several years, demonstrated the quality of its products, its support and its commitment to the quality of the customer experience. It is a long-standing industrial partner of the Orange Group.

Tommi Uitto, Chairman - Nokia Mobile Networks

"We are proud to support Orange in the deployment of its state-of-the-art 5G network in Luxembourg. As the only radio supplier for this stand-alone evolving 5G network, we are providing Nokia's AirScale radio which covers the entire 3.5 GHz spectrum and delivers very high throughput to Orange subscribers."

Corinne Lozé, CEO - Orange Luxembourg

"We are delighted to be working with European equipment manufacturer Nokia to deploy this powerful, innovative and battery life new network. We also continue to invest in our 4G network as network quality and customer experience are the pillars of a sustainable evolution and will remain our priority. With 5G, we confirm our commitment to offer the best of fixed and mobile connectivity to our customers and to support start-ups and businesses in their innovation projects."
