Orange Luxembourg becomes the official partner of the Luxembourg Esports Federation

Press Release
Press Release

Luxembourg, December 16th 2020

Eager to support the development and recognition of eSports in the country, Orange Luxembourg has become the official partner of the Luxembourg eSports Federation (LESF).

The Luxembourg eSports Federation (LESF) was founded last June with the objective of promoting eSport in the Grand Duchy. eSport is a discipline that refers to the practice of a video or computer game in competition, alone or in teams, on a console or computer. The main missions of the ASBL are to officially recognise eSport as a sport in its own right, to federate e-sport players and to represent their collective interests to external parties and the Luxembourg authorities.

As of this 14 December 2020, Orange Luxembourg has become the official partner of the LESF.

Barbara Fangille, Head of Communication - Orange Luxembourg

"We have been committed to the development of gaming and eSports in the country for several years now. We participate every year in the Luxembourg Gaming Xperience, the largest Luxembourg exhibition dedicated to gaming and new technologies, and we organise gaming tournaments in our shops and online. This partnership was therefore a logical next step for us,"

Supporting digital athletes in their practice

Orange's partnership will take the form of both financial and material support for the LESF. The telecom operator wants to help the federation support young gamers in their sport, develop suitable structures for athletes wishing to pursue a professional career, and enable them to access international competitions.

Joe Hoffmann, Chairman - LESF

"We are very happy to be able to count on the support of Orange, the first player to have invested in eSport in Luxembourg. This partnership will allow us to benefit from a greater notoriety and will help us to concretise our ideas more easily, in favour of the development of eSport in Luxembourg."

Today, Luxembourg, like the whole of the Benelux, needs to strengthen the recognition of the cultural importance of eSport and its benefits for the development of teamwork, leadership and cognitive skills. According to LESF, Luxembourg has between 3,000 and 5,000 amateur players of all games (League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, FIFA, etc.) but only a maximum potential of 25 professional players.
