Orange alongside the association "Serve the City"

Letz Clean
Press release

October 4th, 2022 - 4:15pm

"No Big Deal" challenged Luxembourgish people to finance the collection of one ton of waste in the country. Orange went further for "World Cleanup Day" by inviting citizens to physically collect rubbish virtually collected through the challenge.

Orange and the association "Serve The City" organised a waste collection in which about fifty people participated. The company also offered a €7500 cheque to the association, corresponding to the collection and treatment of one ton of rubbish abandoned in public space.

Bertrange, October 4th 2022 - Last March, Orange Luxembourg launched the "LetzClean" initiative, in collaboration with the "No Big Deal" mobile app, which offers its users the opportunity to get moving, by taking up challenges, in order to obtain rewards or to support causes.

Orange invited Luxembourgish people either to walk 35000 steps in six days or to run 7km in 55 minutes. For each challenge completed, Orange undertook to finance the collection and treatment of 1kg of waste collected by "Serve The City".

1000 challenges completed

"Serve The City" regularly invites volunteers to clean up cities by collecting rubbish in public spaces," explains Barbara Fangille, Head of Communication at Orange Luxembourg. On World Cleanup Day, we were able to put our "LetzClean" digital challenge into practice by organising a waste collection in the streets. It was important to us to go further.

Since March, the company has financially supported several clean-up operations organised by "Serve The City". Orange handed over a cheque for €7500 to the association, which corresponds to the collection and treatment of one ton of waste.

A whole community mobilised

"We are happy to have been able to conclude the #LetzClean initiative with this large-scale collection on this symbolic day to raise awareness about the preservation of our environment throughout the world," explains Quentin Delforge, co-founder of No Big Deal. "It's a whole community that has mobilised to act together and restore our environment" adds Nicolas Duprey, director of the association "Serve The City".

Starting in Hollerich, the volunteers mobilised, including employees and customers of Orange Luxembourg, collected 309kg of rubbish in 2 hours.

Digital for good causes

"This event was a great success, commented Barbara Fangille. In line with the "RE" program that we have launched, offering to take back old mobile phones to recycle, recondition or repair them, we want to make our customers more aware of the need to preserve environment. This approach is central in our strategic commitments. The initiative showed how - thanks to digital technology - in conjunction with our desire to support the Luxembourg start-up ecosystem - we can take concrete action to preserve our environment and the well-being of everyone."
