11 June 2024 - 2pm

During its major annual event, Apple unveiled a series of significant updates for its product lineup, with a particular focus on the integration of artificial intelligence.

At the heart of this announcement, Apple introduced iOS 18 for iPhone, iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, and macOS Sequoia, all available this autumn. However, the centerpiece of this presentation was the introduction of Apple Intelligence, a significant advancement in the realm of Apple software.

Apple Intelligence: A New Era for Siri

The headline announcement of this Worldwide Developers Conference 2024 (WWDC) is the integration of Apple Intelligence into Apple's operating systems. This artificial intelligence dramatically transforms the Siri assistant, making it more natural and personal. Apple Intelligence allows for the generation of text and images directly within applications such as Pages, Mail, Messages, and many others. For example, in Mail, this AI can correct texts, summarize key points, and generate automatic replies.

Apple has also integrated ChatGPT 4.0 into its systems, thereby expanding Siri's capabilities. With these new features, Siri adopts a new look and can now respond to written queries. These innovations will be available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with additional features expected in 2025.

iOS 18: A Reinvention of the iPhone Experience

Described as the "most significant update in iPhone history," iOS 18 promises to transform daily use of the device. Among the new features, users will be able to lock and hide sensitive apps, fully customize the colors and icons on their home screen, and enjoy a "game mode" that enhances connection with peripherals such as controllers or headphones while preventing interruptions.

In addition to these features, iOS 18 now allows for the sending of messages via satellite, useful for areas without network coverage or in emergencies. The integration of Apple Intelligence into iOS 18 also brings advanced capabilities such as AI-generated images and emojis, text rewriting in different tones, and automatic sorting of messages and emails by importance.

Meeting Demand

Known for its highly differentiated ecosystem, this new edition surprises by offering products all compatible with USB-C. This aligns them with the new European Union regulations, which aim to standardize this port to minimize electronic waste by 2024.

Apple is responding to public demand by integrating the Dynamic Island feature across both models. This functionality allows for easy interaction with alerts regardless of the active application, whether it's Maps, Music, or other third-party apps.

Expansion of Apple Vision Pro

Alongside these software announcements, Apple also revealed the expansion of its immersive headset, Apple Vision Pro, to new countries. Starting June 28, customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be able to pre-order the Vision Pro, available from July 12. This device offers a unique spatial experience by merging digital content with the physical world for both work and entertainment.

Next Steps for Apple

Following this announcement-packed conference, Apple plans to share more updates in September 2024 during its next keynote, where the new iPhone 16 models are expected to be unveiled. Technology enthusiasts can look forward to continued innovation and surprises at upcoming Apple events.
