Laura Thorn will represent our colors on May 13 at the Eurovision 2025 contest. In this new #InThePhoneOf, she exclusively shares her journey and the story behind her song "La Poupée Monte Le Son."
In the phone of Laura Thorn.
Hello everyone, I am Laura Thorn and I am representing Luxembourg at Eurovision this year.
Tell us about your first phone.
My very first phone, I got it at the age of 9 or 10. It was a pink Samsung, a phone that slid up. It was very trendy at that time.
Team Android or Team Apple?
Team Apple. Since I got my first smartphone, I have always stuck with iPhones.
What is your favorite app?
Maybe Netflix. It's not really a typical app, but whenever I cook or have breakfast, I always have my little series on the side. So, it's really the app I spend the most time on.
Your first Instagram post?
It's quite recent, from November 2024.
For or against the use of social media?
It's a bit of a funny story because I created my Instagram account literally 7 hours before being announced as a finalist for the Luxembourg selection. I am one of the few people who didn't have social media before that moment.
I am against the misuse of social media. Influencers often show an ideal life that isn't really attainable. We forget that behind all the videos and photos, there is a lot of staging. However, social media also allows young artists like me to gain visibility, which was much more difficult before.
I think it's important not to be addicted to social media. What bothers me is seeing a lot of people around a table, all on their phones, without talking to each other. So, I'm not really for or against, but I find there are more cons than pros personally.
What is your strength to win Eurovision 2025?
I think I am a pretty natural and authentic person. I try to really be myself during all these adventures. It's important for the people who follow you to connect with who you are. Many comments I receive are like, "Oh, I feel like I could be your friend in real life."
Tell us about your song "Poupée."
There is a link to France Gall's song, "Poupée de cire, poupée de son." In my song, the doll takes power and says, "No, I don't need anyone, I can function and decide for myself." It's a bit of a revolution for the doll. It pays tribute to France Gall while also showing that a lot has changed in 60 years.
What were you doing before Eurovision?
I was in Namur, Belgium, finishing my master's in singing and music theory. In August, I returned to Luxembourg for a job at the conservatory, where I am now a teacher of solfège and singing.
Any advice for pursuing dreams?
When you have an idea in mind and want to achieve a goal, you really have to go for it. The job you want to do, you might be doing it for 40 years; that's half your life. Always giving your best is very important because a small moment can have big stakes. You should try to be at your best without putting too much pressure on yourself.
Thank yous.
I would like to thank everyone who follows me and sends me touching messages. I don't always have the chance to respond, but it gives me strength and the desire to keep going. Thank you very much, and I hope to see you in Balle!
