Orange Luxembourg is organising the first official FIFA eLeague in Luxembourg

Press Release
Press Release

Luxembourg, February 2nd 2021

The first official national FIFA e-league will be launched in Luxembourg as part of the EA Sports FIFA Global Series. Set up by the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) and the Luxembourg Esports Federation (LESF) in collaboration with Orange Luxembourg, this national e-league will allow the winners to access the regional playoffs of the competition.

The FIFA21 international e-sports season is now underway. Around the world, the qualification processes for the Global Series, a competition where the best FIFA players in the world compete, have started. As a result of several months of work by the LESF and the FLF, with the support of Orange Luxembourg, an official national eSports league will be created for the first time in Luxembourg under the name "Orange eLeague". This league offers the possibility for Luxembourgish players to qualify for regional playoffs in order to determine the regional champion of the FIFA 21 Global Series, the last step before the FIFA eWorld Cup.

Joe Hoffmann, Chairman - LESF

"It is the first e-league to have this status in Luxembourg and thus gives the winners direct access to the regional playoffs thanks to a wild card."

Link between virtual and real

The recruitment of players who will participate in this national e-league has been launched. In concrete terms, the 32 clubs of the first two divisions of Luxembourg football, namely the National Division and the Promotion of Honour, can each register two players, who do not necessarily need to have a licence.

Gilles Faber, Head of eSport - FLF

"As a sports federation, it is important for us to make the link between eSport and classic sport. We want to participate in the development of eSport and its recognition as a sport in its own right."

Wild card for the best club and the best individual player

Clubs have the opportunity to register their players until the 19th of February 2021. The national e-league will start on the 2nd of March 2021. The competition will take place between March and May, with two matches per day, in order to respect the timing set by EA Sports. At the end of the competition, the best club and the most successful player will be awarded a wild card.

Barbara Fangille, Head of Communication - Orange Luxembourg

"Thanks to this e-league, local talent will be able to participate in a world-class competition. We are delighted with the creation of such a project, which is an excellent sign for eSport in Luxembourg."
