A new season of the Orange eLeague is officially launched. This second edition of the esports competition will see the best players of FIFA 22, the famous football video game published by EA SPORTS, compete against each other.

Hosted by the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) and the Luxembourg Esports Federation (LESF) with the support of Orange Luxembourg, the Orange eLeague will crown the best team and the best esports player in Luxembourg on the game FIFA. In the first season, 32 clubs from the national and honorary divisions competed in FIFA 21, each represented by a team of two players. In addition, an individual tournament offered 16 independent players the opportunity to showcase their skills in the popular football video game.

This year, the two federations want to open up the competition more widely.

"For this second season, all LFF member football clubs, i.e. 103 clubs from the national division to the third division, will be able to take part in the championship. The individual edition, on the other hand, will allow teams of independent players, Luxembourg residents or persons who can claim Grand Ducal nationality, aged over 16, to compete."

Joe Hoffmann, Chairman - Luxembourg Esports Federation

"Our wish is to promote esports as a sport discipline in its own right, requiring, like any other, seriousness and rigour. It is therefore important to us to make this championship an official event that goes beyond Luxembourg. This year again, the participants of the grand final will have the chance to obtain a ticket to defend the colours of Luxembourg against the winners of the other national leagues."

Maurice Deville, mentor of this second season

In this same approach aiming at supporting the development of esports in Luxembourg, the Orange League is lucky enough to be able to count on an exceptional mentor. Maurice Deville, member of the Luxembourg national football team, striker of 1. FC Saarbrücken, a German 3rd division club, will be present throughout the season to support the players and accompany them.

Gilles Faber, Representative - Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Football

"With his presence, the goal is to create a link between the world of sports football and its e-sports variation. Maurice Deville, although he excels on the pitch, is also a great fan of esports, as shown by the community of 8,000 people federated around his Twitch channel, on which he offers streams and highlights of football games."

Supporting esports and allowing the emergence of new talents

Orange Luxembourg is very proud to renew its partnership with the FLF and the LESF for this competition.

Barbara Fangille, Head of Communication - Orange Luxembourg

"The success of the first season showed the growth of the esports phenomenon in Luxembourg. Our desire, in the continuity of what was achieved last year, is to support the development of the discipline and to contribute to revealing new talents throughout the country.
