March 1st, 2021 - 6pm

Orange Luxembourg is partner of the Luxembourg City Film Festival for several years now and although this year is somewhat special, this will not prevent the festival to take place for its 11th time.

The Luxembourg City Film Festival will take place in Luxembourg from March 4 to 14 March, offering viewers the opportunity to enjoy the many movies on the program. Despite of the particular circumstance we are all familiar with, the festival has decided to maintain the screening, while respecting the measures in force, by proposing a phygital format, in order to extend access to films to as many people as possible.

An extraordinary festival

The 11th edition of the festival had at heart to present the planned program to all interested people, despite the context; it was at that time that the idea of a hybrid festival sounded quite obvious. By offering to discover movies in cinemas or online from home, the festival ensures that the greatest number of people can watch movies and documentaries, in competition or not.

An international jury faces to restrictions

If the festival did not give in for the organization of the event, it had to make a compromise on the guests and the international jury. Indeed, wanting the deliberations of the GRAND PRIX – by Orange to take place physically, a jury of personalities located in Paris was the best option. Thus 6 recognize professionals accepted to join the jury, under the presidency of the French actress and director Sandrine Bonnaire.

The international jury will therefore be composed of:

  • LOLITA CHAMMAH, French actress

  • MARIE-ANGE LUCIANI, French producer

  • GILLES MARCHAND, French director and screenwriter

  • MOUNIA MEDDOUR, French and Algerian director

  • FINNEGAN OLDFIELD, French and British actor

  • CHRISTINA SCHAFFER, Luxemburgish and German production designer

8 movies in competition

The international jury will have to choose between the 8 following movies to award the Grand Prix – by Orange:

The others categories to discover

In addition to the films competing for the Grand Prix – by Orange, 6 documentaries are in competition for the Documentary Award – by BGL BNP Paribas. The members of the Europa Film Festival network will decide on a winner.

You could also enjoy the movies appearing in the others categories of the festival, the official out of competition selection, the movies made in/with Luxembourg, the Cartes Blanches & artistic collaborations, the young public programme, and the workshops and events.

Zoom on Orange’s Carte Blanche

This year, Orange Luxembourg has decided to propose the movie MICA by Ismaël Ferroukhi for its Carte Blanche which will take place on March 11th. This movie engaged against the social inequalities, carries us through the story of Mica, a little boy growing up in the slum of Meknes in Morocco. His life is about to take a different turn when the tennis comes into his life by chance and when Mica will take his destiny into his own hands. To find out more about this favorite movie, go to cinema or directly from your living room on March 11th.
