Orange enhances its "Safe Zones" in Fortnite with BEE SECURE Helpline to fight cyber harassment

Safe Zones Fortnite
Press release

February 1st 2023 - 3pm

In an effort to combat cyber harassment, Orange Luxembourg is making official the presence of "Safe Zones" within the Luxembourgish Fortnite game environment and is continuing its commitment to promote safer, more responsible and more positive use of online gaming platforms.

Luxembourgish Fortnite players facing cyberbullying or online safety issues can now take refuge in an Orange Safe Zone and find the BEE SECURE Helpline and advice on how to get help.

Bertrange, 31 January 2023 - In November 2022, a few days after the international day against cyberbullying, Orange announced the launch of "Safe Zones" on various video game platforms in order to support families and protect young players from the dangers associated with virtual environments.

"Through these immersive gaming platforms, young users can interact with other gamers and enjoy sensational experiences," explains Barbara FANGILLE, Head of Communication of Orange Luxembourg. "However, playing in these environments is not risk-free. It is important for us to raise awareness among users, especially the youngest, and their families, about responsible use and to prevent risks, particularly in terms of cyber harassment, security or addiction to video games.

There is now a 'Safe Zone' in six Fortnite game maps

The Orange "Safe Zones" are a solution to these issues. Integrated into the game environment, they act as a refuge. In this space, which is both fun and educational, players are informed about the dangers of digital and the best practices to adopt to protect themselves. "Currently, such spaces are available to Luxembourg players in six Fortnite game maps, including Desert Dune - Gun Game and Sniper VS Runner - Galaxy," continues Barbara Fangille. Through them, users can take part in a quiz associated with a reward system.

Getting help and advice in a cyberbullying situation

Beyond that, if a user has a question or feels victimised by cyber harassment, the Safe Zone offers the possibility to contact the BEE SECURE Helpline for a free and confidential consultation.

BEE SECURE is a government initiative whose mission is to promote safer, responsible and positive use of media and technology.

Within each Orange Safe Zone, users will find the BEE SECURE Helpline number - 8002 1234 - as well as a link to the government initiative's website, where they can find many resources to help them.

Promoting a more responsible use of digital technology

We are very pleased to continue our efforts to promote more responsible use of digital technology and to fight against abuses," adds Barbara Fangille. We now want to be able to offer other "Safe Zones" in Fortnite and on other major gaming platforms.

Orange is also raising awareness in the Metaverse

For several months now, Orange Luxembourg has been increasing its efforts to raise awareness among users of new digital uses. The operator has acquired two sites in the "Luxembourg Metaverse", including an "Orange Digital Center". In this virtual space, Metaverse users can find a range of information on new digital practices, the possibilities they offer and advice on how to use these tools responsibly.
