Smartphone Recycling: How Does the Mobile Trade-In Service Work?
Smartphone Recycling: How does the mobile trade-in service work?
The mobile trade-in service at Orange Luxembourg takes place in three simple and quick steps:
Valuation of the trade-in: Select your mobile model on our online search engine to get an estimated trade-in value, or visit one of our shops. If your mobile is too old or in an irreparable condition, it will have no market value; however, you can still visit a shop where it will be accepted in exchange for a symbolic €2. It will then be sent to our recycling partner to give a second life to its precious materials.
Validation in shop: Visit an Orange shop where an expert will confirm the exact value of your device using our Panda machine specifically designed for smartphone analysis. You will then receive a trade-in voucher to use directly in the shop.
Using the trade-in value: The trade-in amount will be deducted from the price of your new smartphone or accessories.
What criteria must my phone meet to be refurbished?
For your phone to be eligible for refurbishment, it must meet the following conditions:
Functional: It must turn on, allow navigation through menus, and not have major defects.
Complete: The battery and battery cover must be present, along with all components (buttons, camera, etc.).
For iPhones: The "Find My iPhone" option must be disabled.
If it does not meet these criteria, it can still be accepted for recycling.
Where can I trade in my phone?
You can trade in your phone at all Orange shops. Our experts will evaluate your device and offer a trade-in amount based on the model and its condition.
It is also possible to do it online through your customer account via a printable Mondial Relay voucher. Once sent, your device will be analyzed to check its condition, and payment will be made within 7 days after validation. Attached are examples of the transfer voucher and Mondial Relay voucher.
My phone is broken; can I still sell it?
Yes, you can sell your phone even if it is broken, but the buyback price will be lower depending on its condition. The estimate will take into account visible damages, such as screen cracks, significant scratches, or missing components. We recommend getting an online estimate before visiting the shop, as this will give you an idea of the amount, which will be confirmed or reassessed by our advisors in the shop. If it has no value, still give your old mobile a second life by bringing it to the shop. Your phone will be recycled, and you will receive a €2 voucher.
Do I need to provide accessories with my phone for the trade-in?
No, only the phone and its battery are necessary. Chargers, earbuds, and other accessories are not required to benefit from the trade-in. However, if you have old accessories lying around, feel free to bring them in for recycling.
How is the trade-in value of my phone determined?
The trade-in value depends on several criteria, including:
The overall condition of the device (functional, complete, without major damages).
The model and brand of the phone.
The current trade-in offer.
You can obtain an online estimate before visiting the shop for confirmation. Discover in the video how our PANDA machine estimates the value of your old phone.
What happens if I am not satisfied with the proposed trade-in amount?
If the final trade-in amount in the shop does not suit you, you are free to decline the offer and keep your phone.
What does Orange do with the traded-in phones?
Traded-in phones can be:
Refurbished by our partner and resold to give them a second life.
Recycled in Luxembourg in compliance with environmental standards to recover precious materials and reduce electronic waste.
Can I transfer my trade-in voucher to someone else?
The trade-in voucher is personal and cannot be transferred to another person. It can only be used for the purchase of a new phone or accessory and must be used immediately in the shop.
My phone contains personal data; what should I do before the trade-in?
Before handing over your phone, it is strongly recommended to:
